Starting today, Mansfield Public Library patrons can check out WiFi hotspots. The library secured 22 devices to increase Internet access for the community. Residents can connect their favorite gadgets – iPads, Kindles, laptops, etc. – to the Internet and start browsing using Verizon’s 4G LTE cell service.
The hotspots come in handy in a variety of situations including:
- Children needing to access their homework or help on homework if their home is without Internet access
- People that have recently moved and haven’t decided on their new Internet service provider
- Trips within the U.S.
The hotspots will provide Internet access wherever Verizon provides national cell service.
The devices, also known as Verizon Jetpacks, are included in orange hard-case WiFi kits. Each kit includes:
- The hotspot
- A USB cord to connect the Jetpack to a computer or the charger
- A charger that can be plugged into an electrical outlet
The kits must be picked up at and returned to the library front desk during normal library hours. For damaged or lost devices, there is a $200 replacement fee. If you’re inclined to keep a hotspot forever, just know that the library can and will deactivate Internet access after your due date.
To reserve a hotspot online, visit the Mansfield Public Library Catalog and search for “wifi hotspot.”
